Author: Anna Sewell
Title: Black Beauty
Summary: The story that I read was about a horse named Black Beauty his first home was a large pleasant meadow. After a few years he was sold to Squire Gordon at Birtwick Park. When Squire Gordon's wife was sick for a long time Black Beauty was sold to an old friend of his named Mr. York he lived in Earlshall. He had a groom named Reuben Smith he was left in charge while Mr. York was in London. One afternoon he went to deliver a letter to his friends. When he was on his way home he had an accident with Black Beauty and he died. After a lot of selling Black Beauty to different people around the world he finally came to one last place which was with Farmer Thoughgood and his grandson Willie which they found him at the horse fair but sooner or later he was sold again to Joe Green at Birtwick Park which was his last home and he was very happy to be standing with his old friends under the apple trees.
Protagonist: The protagonist in my story is Black Beauty because he was a very good horse. He was very young and he was a handsome horse and also well tempered. He wouldn't kick his masters nor act all crazy he would always listen he wouldn't disobey his masters. He never had to be hit with the whip but some of his masters would still use it because he wasn't going fast enough but he would go as fast as he could. When he had to wear a bridle in his mouth he didn't like it but he would still let his masters put it on he knew it was the only way to not have the whip laid on him.
Antagonist: The antagonist is all of Black Beauty's masters except his first master and Squire Gordon. All of his masters would whip him. When Black Beauty was going as fast as he could they would still whip him to go faster but he couldn't. They were very harsh to him he became a carriage horse on a country estate to be a cab horse in town. Black Beauty was a very handsome, sweet-tempered but he was also very strong, spirited, and with fine instincts.
Theme:
The message to my story is that you shouldn't be mean or disrespect horses. Horses are like us they need to be well treated if you don't treat them like they want to be treated they will treat you the same way. Horses have feelings they don't like it when they are hit with the whip or have the bridle on them they want to be treated well and good not like a piece of trash. I loved this book every chapter that I read kept on getting better and better on the last chapter I was really happy that Black Beauty didn't end up on some bad house he ended up with Joe Green his old groomer. I hope u read this book on day and you enjoy it.
Author's Perspective: Anna Sewell was born in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk on March 30, 1820 her full name was Anna Mary Sewell. She was about 14 when she sprained her ankle she had either a bad injury treated badly or she had bone disease. She was never able to walk properly again. In 1871 a doctor pronounced that Anna only had 18 months to live. She became very weak but was determined to induce kindness, sympathy and an understanding of horses. Five years later she was still working on Black Beauty but she was so weak that she couldn't even get out of bed and could only write a few lines at a time. Finally the book was finished and was published in 1877 but Anna died a few years after this in April 25 1878 she was not able to experience the books huge success but for 100 years readers have been proving her right.
Book Rating: I liked this book because it tells you how animals are being treated. Just because they do something wrong doesn't mean you have to hit them with a whip they didn't because they don't know. This book is mostly about a horse that was treated good at some point then was treated bad the next he was always being sold because they didn't like him. This book tells you that horses have feelings they need to be treated good not bad. I think that this book deserves a 5 star rating because honestly it was a really good book. I think that this book is recommended for children that are 10 and older parents should read this too.
This book deserve 5 stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
