For this weeks blog I will write about a field trip that I had on Wednesday to the Norton Simon Museum. At first when I heard we were going to the museum I wasn't very happy about it because I don't like museums. Once I got there it wasn't so bad, first we went on a private tour to see some of the most popular paintings, by my teacher we were told to pick our favorite art and later in the year we will draw and paint it. My favorite art from that museum was the "Portrait of a Pleasant" that art was painted by Van Gogh. I like many art paintings from Van Gogh because he puts many colors and a lot of his art in my opinion have a meaning whether it can be seen or told by people or not. I may be wrong about his art but I still like his specific paintings a lot and I think they are very colorful. During the tour I learned a lot about different paintings and why they were painted by those specific artist. Not only did I like the Van Gogh's art but I also liked the first art we saw, I forgot the names of it and who the artist was, but the reason I liked it was because it showed how brave the women was even though she married and right after he left her to live with another woman he actually really loved. The artist also made the lady in the paining look strong and confident by giving her strong bright colors showing that she was confident about being herself. The painter made sure that the colors and her personality was able to be seen through the painting. Visit http://nortonsimon.org to go to Norton Simon Museum
For this weeks blog I will be talking about a story I read by Gary Soto called "The Pie." The excerpt "The Pie" by Gary Soto is about his experience about stealing a pie and feeling guilty about it. In this excerpt Gary mentions a lot of personification and uses a lot of simile and metaphors to make his statement. An example of one of his personifications is in paragraph two,"...the juice of guilt wetting my underarms." He mentions this to explain that stealing the pie from the German Market made him feel guilty and was nervous he would be caught. Soto also repeats "the howling pipes" more than once, to mentions something is wrong, just like when something is wrong with pipes along your house. Gary throughout his whole excerpt he mentions a lot about hell and sinning. Another example of one of Soto's personification quotes is in paragraph three, "...wavered between the branches of a yellowish sycamore." In this personification he means to explain that the branches are moving which has the sun shining in certain places. The summary above is an assignment that I did in order to explain what The Pie is about. I really liked this excerpt, if there was a book that Gary Soto wrote, I would recommend it for everyone because it really interested me. While reading this excerpt I would have never known that a six year old would be capable to steal a pie from a grocery store especially because little ones always get the most attention from adults. So it really makes me question how the little kid managed to steal this pie from the story without being caught. I noticed that Soto uses a lot of personification in his stories or excerpts that he makes, which makes me think how he makes the rest of his stories/excerpt. For this weeks blog I will be talking about subject and object pronouns. I learned about subject and object pronouns and how to use them in a sentence. I also learned how to identify them anytime there is a test or quiz. As a warm up in class we had to write a story using subject and object pronouns, at first it was difficult because I didn't know how to create the story then just after a while I came up how and what to write my story about. Here it is: Low Battery. Exactly the two words I didn't want to see right now. I didn't even have my charger and wasn't even close to going home yet. My parents and I had gone out to buy Christmas gifts, I had forgotten to put my phone to charge the night before. They had told me, it would be a good idea since we were gonna take a while at the store. Now I got to try and save my battery till we get home. I don't know how I will be able to make it last. Everything that is highlighted are the pronouns I used to create the story. Subject pronouns are very easy to find, the words are I, YOU, HE, SHE, IT, WE, YOU, and THEY. Once you find these words you know automatically that they are subject pronouns. Object pronouns are just as easy to find as subject pronouns they are ME, YOU, HIM, HER, IT, US, YOU, and THEM. This topic goes by singular and plural. As you can see from the list above WE, THEM, THEY, HE, SHE, IT are the most that are singular subject and object pronouns. WE, YOU, THEY, US, THEM are plural subject and object pronouns, as you can see some words are written more than once and singular and plural and that is because they can be used as both singular and plural. For this weeks blog I will talk about Veterans Day. Yesterday, November 11, 2015 was Veterans Day, obviously those who are veterans and others who honor them. In my opinion Veterans Day is very important because we honor those people who are in war to help protect or country, or state. Veterans Day will always be a day where we honor and appreciate everything that is done for us because without veterans who knows how our world would be right now. We would always have war and things that could just be avoided. Just like police men and women are to protect and serve. Veterans do the same thing just very different they actually go to war against people who are trying to ruin our country and don't approve with the freedom we have here. In a way honoring veterans is good and I'm sure they feel good about it to. In my opinion it probably makes them feel like they are actually working for something, to protect us. They work not just for them and there liking just to also protect their own people. To us again in my opinion we are probably like family that need there help to keep this place as it should be. Without them we would end up in a bad environment that would be in major help for someone to change the world is. Yeah, there are some things that we need to change about this country, or state but everything will come when it's ready. In my opinion everything will change when the time is right, or when someone decides to change it, and isn't afraid to show who they really and and show how much they care in order to change this world and probably even the people in it.
For this weeks blog I will be talking about an event that I had at school taking place on November 4, 2015. It was the 50th day of school and also the 50th anniversary of my school. For that day my whole school dressed like we were in the 50. I enjoyed it because many other kids were really creative for how they can make themselves look like they were from that time period. Many girls were the "pink ladies" from that time period and the most of the boys dressed with a white shirt and plain blue pants with some conserve like the 50. We also had a band called the Alley Cats that came to perform at our school, mainly everyone enjoyed them. They were really funny and sang pretty good. They got many kids from the younger grades on their fleets and clapping their hands. At recess time we also had some root beer floats and many kids also enjoyed that. On November 5, 2015 at my school we had the author Alexis O'Neill visit us and tell us how she writes her books and how she gets the ideas on making her picture books. She gave us and teachers many ideas on how to brainstorm to make stories if we ever make some. She told us how her career started and how in order to create a book or story the best thing to do would be to research all the information we need and after to brainstorm from all the information we got and create our story. In my opinion all of her advices would be very useful because I sometimes have trouble to create stories especially because I am not creative with anything, even when it comes to drawing I'm not creative and especially with stories.
For this weeks blog I will be talking about the type of essay I wrote. My essay was about Saint John Paul II and Pope Francis, I wrote about some of their differences and similarities. If you think that they don't have much in common, well your wrong because they actually have a lot in common with each other and what they want to do to change the world. I will be talking about some similarities that they have and then talk about how writing this type of essay was for me. Saint John Paul and Pope Francis both want and wanted things to change the world, so it can become a better place for us, without being afraid of anything. They both had or have main focuses for children, Jesus, and the poor. They also both like soccer and they both were/are non- Italian popes. At the time they both visited the states which was Washington D.C. They both had a main focus on the Golden Rule and the beatitudes. They both speak multiple languages one of them being English. They like it that people have a good respect with each other and knowing people will care for whatever they decide to do. Right now Pope Francis is in the path to end the death penalty and abortion, which is also something Saint John Paul II wanted to do. These are all the similarities, they both want/wanted to change the world from what it has become from everything, but still love and care for the people in it. When this assignment was assigned to me, I actually thought it was easy because my class and I had taken notes about both of these popes. I had all the information that I needed about some differences that they had plus also similarities.
For this weeks blog I will be talking about what I have been doing this week at school. Yesterday, Tuesday, in my class we had done a Pope Brochure about almost 2 weeks ago and yesterday we had to be creative and dress up like them. I was Pope Pius XI, our 260th pope. When I did this project, I personally learned a lot about many different popes, especially mine and my friends. We learned about popes that were from recent years and also ancient. Here's some information I'll tell you about my pope. My pope's real name was Ambrogio Damiano Archille Ratti. He was born on May 31, 1857 in Desio near Milan, Italy. He was offically selected to be pope on February 6, 1922, he had a focus while he was pope and that focus was to prevent the final Union of Wills between Hitler and Mussolini. He had also set out to rid Roman Catholic missions from their imperial powers. Pius XI before he died, in the couple last months of his life he noticed the gathering clouds of World War II. When he was pope he didn't like war, so he did many things to stop Hitler and war against others. Pius XI made a speech that he had worked on for months and was going to deliver it to Rome to stop violations of the Lateran treaty and the racist persecutions. Before Pius XI had died he had an American Jetsuit who had helped him start a campaign to stop Hitler from the power he had over Germany and killing innocent people. Pius XI spoke 10 languages, his nationality was Italian. Pius XI had died by 2 heart attacks in several hours, he had many breathing problems that made it impossible to leave his house. Pius XI was only able to accomplish only some things of what he had wanted to do, he ended up dying on February 10, 1939.
