DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
Answer the following questions in COMPLETE SENTENCES using textual evidence (proof from the novel) to support your answers.
In the beginning of Chapter 1, how is Buck described?
The way that Buck was described in the story was that he was a ST. Bernard with strong of muscle and with long warm hair.
Based on this description, how do you think he will deal with the hardships of the Yukon Territory?
I think that he will be able to survive in the Yukon Territory because he is a strong, brave, and independent dog and he won't let anybody boss him around because he knows whats right for him.
Which of his traits will serve him in his new life? Which will he have to abandon to survive?
The traits that I think will help him survive his new life is eating the raw fish, sleeping in the snow, and being a pet dog to being a wolf. The trait that he will have to abandon to survive is him eating less then how he was used to, instead of sleeping in a nice bed he will have to sleep in the snow, and he doesn't really have a family to care for him as much as Judge did when he lived with him.
What important lesson did Buck learn from the man with the club?
The important lesson that Buck learned from the man with the club is that he wont be able to do whatever he wants to do.
What is meant by the line, "It was his introduction to the reign of primitive law, and he met the introduction halfway."?
The meaning of the line is saying that Buck has met what it feels to be in the primitive law but he only met it halfway way not fully.
How did Francois begin to earn Buck's respect? From the description of this incident, predict what Buck's relationship will be with "a big, snowy-white fellow from Spitzbergen."?
The way that Francios began to earn Buck's respect is that he was protecting him when Spitz tried to get his food and he was also nice to him. I think that from the incident that happened Buck and Spitz wont have such a nice relationship.
What is the significance of the title of this chapter?
I think that the significance of the title in this chapter is saying that the primitive law isnt something thats going to be easy for all the dogs to learn that it will be hard fo them.

The time that I felt nervous about something was when my sister was in the hospital because she was running a really high fever and we didn't know what was wrong with her. When we had been in the hospital for a long time I was really nervous because I felt that my sister was gonna have to stay there over night so they can do somethings to her. I really didn't want nothing to happen to my sister because I love her a lot and I would have been really scared and nervous if they had to do surgery or anything else to her so I was glad nothing happened to her. Another time that I was really really scared was when my dog was sick. He had an ear infection and we had to take him to the dog hospital so they can uninfect it but what really scared me was that they had to put him to sleep in order to go in his ear and get out everything that was making the ear infection happen so when they put him to sleep I thought he was never going to wake up it did take a while for him to wake up and all and that's what scared until he finally woke up and I was so happy he was still alive and that he was going to be alright.
