Prereading Reflection:
What makes someone a generous person?
The thing that makes a generous person is that you are not selfish and that you share with others. For example you help others in opening the door when they have to much on their hands, that if they say something and they say please you should say okay or say something in a nice way. Another example is that you can help your friends that are sick yon can help them. The are many ways that you can be generous.
Is it possible for someone to be too generous?
Yes it is possible for someone to be too generous. For example u give them to many things of yours when they don't even ask for it or they say no you still give it to them. Another example is that you care for one person too much and that person doesn't really like it and they get annoyed. Another example is that you always want to be there for them no matter what but sometimes it's non of that person business and they are there anyway. Some people try not to be too generous but they can't help it and they do it anyway.

Contrasting Ideas:
Give examples from the text that identify when Mrs. Brennan's generosity is HELPFUL vs. HURTFUL
HELPFUL:Mrs. Brennan gives the old man money for his apples. This is helpful because he looks old and needy. This is also helpful because she will want to buy apples to cook and eat and giving the old man money because he doesn't have any money. She is also helpful by her feeling bad for the old man in the beginning of the story and buying dozen apples.
|
HURTFUL: Mrs. Brennan's generosity is hurtful because she does not need or want apples and only gets mad at the old man and herself when she buys them. Mrs. Brennan hides from the old man because she didn't want anymore apples because the old man was always going to her instead of the other houses. She is hurtful by her lying that she didn't have enough money.
