Pope Saint John was born on November 25, 1881 in Sotto il Monte his birth name is Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli. He was the 4th born out of 13 kids. When Saint John was 8 he received his first Communion and Confirmation. In 1904 he was "ordained a priest in a Catholic Church on August 10." In 1905 on of the bishops of Bergamo appointed Saint John as his secretary. He was working with him until his death on August 22,1914 during his death the Bishops last words to Saint John were "Angelo pray for peace" when he died his death was a deep effect on Saint John.
During the World War 1 Saint John was drafted into the Royal Italian Army and was a sergeant. On November 21 1921 he traveled to Rome to meet with the pope after they met "Pope Benedict XV appointed him as the Italian president of the Society of the Propagation of the Faith. He was ordained a priest in 1904, a bishop in 1925, and elevated to the College of Cardinals in 1953. After a few years he was elected the Chair of Peter as Pope Saint John XXIII in 1958 but as people call the good pope was elected back in the twentieth century. When he was at Church or would go to Church he would surprise the people with his reforming spirit. When he convened the the Second Vatican Council in 1962, that council laid out a broad new vision and set of reforms for a Roman Catholic Church. While Pope Saint John XXIII internationalized the college of cardinals, revised the code of canon law, and wrote eight papal encyclicals, including Mater et Magistra (Mother and Teacher), which expounded on themes of Christianity and social progress. In an attempt to depoliticize the church, he played down his position as ruler of the Vatican and emphasized his role as "servants of the servants of God," a traditional title of the pope. His major encyclical, Pacem in Terris (Peace on Earth), addressed to all humankind, was received warmly throughout the world and praised by politicians as well as churchmen.
Pope Saint John XXIII died on June 3, 1963, in Rome. Pope Saint John XXIII died from stomach cancer in 1963. He was beautified by Pope John Paul Ii on September 3, 2000. Pope Saint John XXIII canonized by Pope Francis on April 27, 2014. When he died he has become on of the best loved men in the world.
